WebMar 7, 2012 · The PTFE ALWAYS leaks for me. The spring seals go in perfectly and never have a problem. Besides, the PTFE has to sit for 4 hours after install before you can rotate the cam. Average TB job is 3-3.5 hours. There is a nice tapered shield for the end of the cam that allows the new seal to easily slide into place without hooking on the keyway. WebJan 30, 2024 · The camshaft seal appears to be leaking. If it is not the camshaft seal, it has to be the valve cover gasket. It is not the turbocharger oil lines. They were closely inspected too and are not leaking. The valve cover bolts are tight. All checked. The timing belt kit had the new teflon seal for the camshaft.

A new seal will probably still seal a slightly smaller diameter as long as it's smooth. I'm guessing the scratch is rough enough that it's just damaging the seal. You probably can pull the cam with the head still on the motor, It won't be easy though. WebMar 23, 2012 · How did you remove the old seals? If you pried them out, you may have nicked the camshaft, which will cause the new seals to leak. If you did nick the cam, and it's not too bad, you can use emery cloth to smooth it out, then install a new seal. Did you put anything on the new seal before you installed it? high simpson
